Why Backwell Leisure Centre swimming pool is to remain closed for another TWO months

The main pool at Backwell Leisure Centre is to remain closed for another TWO months due to safety concerns.

The pool at the centre, on the main A370, closed at the beginning of May after problems with the air handling system.

The learner pool remains open along with the other leisure centre facilities.

A post was put on the leisure centre's Facebook page earlier this month announcing the closure.

In the post it said: "The main pool is closed due to safety concerns with the air handling system.

"The small pool is open as normal."

The pool is used by local schools for swimming lessons.

Operators initially hoped to get the pool back open this weekend.

But it seems as if the issues are taking longer to resolve than first anticipated and now it is expected to remain closed until mid July.

Posting on its website, a statement said: " We regret to inform our customers that due to essential maintenance work on the ventilation system and roof the main pool will be closed until approximately mid July.

"This does not affect the small pool.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused."

Those with memberships for the pool, run by Parkwood Leisure, have been given access to its sister sites at Hutton Moor in Weston-super-Mare and Hengrove Park in Bristol.

Members will need to show the membership card and explain they are from Backwell.
