The day is structured to include four interactive panel debates. The first will examine the facts behind the debt 'crisis', then a discussion on immediate remedies, followed by an in-depth look at more long-term solutions.
The event concludes with a conversation on the wider implications for the country, how things might change in a recession and what we can do to give people access to affordable credit.
Some of the issues we will explore include:
- Do we have a debt crisis? What is the truth behind the headlines?
- How will the credit crunch affect the banks ability to reach people who are financially excluded?
- How can we stop people living beyond their means, is education the answer?
- What advice is available to people, is it the right sort of advice?
- Do people know how to prioritise their debts and how can we combat low levels of financial literacy?
