Why Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and other Premier League clubs are holding major meeting today

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have joined their Premier League colleagues for a meeting in London today to discuss a variety of topics.

The trio, along with fellow sides from the capital West Ham, Crystal Palace and Brentford, as well as the remaining 14 teams in the Premier League, have all sent delegates in what is only the governing bodies’ second meeting in two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A number of issues are set to be discussed throughout the meeting, including fixture dates for next season with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar expected to cause a number of issues.

The tournament, which is scheduled to run during the winter, will cause a knock-on effect for the English football calendar, so clubs must come together to find a viable solution.

Meanwhile, there is also set to be a discussion on the latest Covid-19 protocols for fans entering stadiums.

Whilst the majority of restrictions around the UK have already been lifted, there still remains guidelines and criteria for fans to meet in order to gain access to games.

Some are required to show a proof of vaccination, or alternatively exemption, or a negative Covid-19 test.

However, this has caused some disruption at some venues, with some clubs in the Premier League appearing to be unhappy with the current set of rules.

The outcome of the meeting and decisions are expected to be unveiled at some point in the near future.

In the meantime, clubs will continue to prepare for the latest round of Premier League fixtures. Chelsea head into matchday six top of the table and face reigning champions Manchester City at the Etihad.

Elsewhere, Spurs and Arsenal face each other in the first north London derby of the campaign.
