Why armed police were called to Mina Road in St Werburghs

Armed police were called to reports of someone being threatened with a hammer in a Bristol street today (December 6).

Officers descended on Mina Road in St Werburghs at around 12.30pm.

A man was arrested nearby on suspicion of affray as armed officers assisted local police.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary said enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

"Police detained a man just before 12.50pm today (December 6) in Mina Road, Bristol," a police spokesman said.

"Officers were called to the street at 12.32pm following reports of someone being threatened with a hammer.

"Specialist armed officers supported local police in arresting a man nearby on suspicion of affray.

"Enquiries into the incident continue."
