Armed police were called to an address in Leeds last night (Tuesday) in the midst of an incident which lasted for almost five hours.
Officers were initially called to a property on Branksome Place, Hyde Park, at 4pm. However, when they arrived they became concerned for the welfare of a main inside the house in relation to self-harm.
Police then put a cordon in place around the perimeter of the property as more police vehicles attended. Trained officers spoke to the man to try and bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
Concerns for the man's wellbeing soon escalated though and West Yorkshire Police called on assistance from armed officers to force their way into the property.
At around 8.40pm, they used distraction devices - commonly known as stun grenades - before storming the house.
The man was taken to hospital for a suspected overdose and is continuing to receive treatment. His condition is not believed to be life threatening.
Officers recovered two BB guns and a scene remains in place.
