Why are truckers protesting in Dublin? All you need to know as traffic chaos reported

For the second time in less than a month, there could be traffic chaos in Dublin.

Dublin City Council warned drivers to expect serious delays and to use different methods of transport if possible.

The truckers caused mayhem when they descended onto the capital last month, and they are set to strike back even bigger on Monday.

DCC tweeted: "There is a possibility of some traffic disruption during the peak hours on Monday morning due to a planned hauliers protest.

"The public is asked to plan for any necessary journeys on Monday and to use public transport, walking and cycling where possible."

The planned meeting points for the protest are: M1 services southbound, M2/N2 Motorway Ashbourne Retail Park, M3 Service Station Maxol, M4 Galway Plaza, M4 Kinnegad Plaza, M7 Kennedy Key Cork and Toughers Naas.

But what's it all about?

Why are truckers protesting?

It's their second protest in the space of four weeks, and the blockage is part of a protest calling for lower fuel costs at petrol and diesel pumps and at home.

There is also concern over the future fuel rebate levels, driver shortages, taxes and other operational costs.

How many vehicles are expected to take part?

Around 30 to 40.

What's their main aim for the protest?

Already, we've seen reports of slow movement in Dublin city centre, similar to the scenes we saw in November.

A social media post from the organisers reads: "Dublin Port is where we need to be. There seems to be a few diversions in place. If we don't get into the port we will be blocking all around the Quays and the 3 Arena. Coming in and out of the tunnel

"Hold your ground and well done to all who has made the effort so far."
