- Andy Serkis, director of the new Lord of the Rings film The Hunt for Gollum, has clarified why Jamie Dornan's character, Aragorn, is credited as "Strider" in the movie.
- Serkis explained that at this particular point in his journey, Aragorn is living in the wilderness and would not yet identify himself by his full name, hence the use of "Strider".
- Jamie Dornan will portray Aragorn, taking over from Viggo Mortensen, who previously played the role and had expressed openness to reprising it if appropriate for his age.
- Mortensen has given his "seal of approval" to Dornan's casting, despite some fan disappointment that he would not be returning.
- Scheduled for release in December 2027, the film is set between The Hobbit trilogy and The Fellowship of the Ring, following Strider's quest to track Gollum before he can reveal the One Ring's location to Sauron, with Serkis also reprising his role as Gollum via motion capture.
