Why Antonio Conte got a bit carried away with his Oliver Skipp injury recovery update

Antonio Conte suggested that there was a chance Oliver Skipp might be back for Tottenham's match against Newcastle but football.london understand he may have been getting slightly carried away. The Spurs head coach spoke in positive terms about the 21-year-old midfielder's recovery after a pelvic injury affecting the pubic symphysis, having been previously frustrated about the slow progress being made.

"About Skippy, I hope to have him after the international break. His pain is getting better and better," Conte said ahead of Tottenham's win against West Ham. When pushed by football.london on whether that meant the England U21 international could be back to face Newcastle in the first game of next month, Conte added: "It’s difficult to answer now. We’ll have two weeks to see this improvement and make him ready for the game against Newcastle.

"I know the player’s frustration because we’re talking also about a really good guy. He's a top guy, a top man. To see him very disappointed and very sad for this situation, but he has to be strong because we believe in him and we are waiting for him."
