Why Angelino left Man City on transfer deadline day loan seven months after signing from PSV

Angelino said he signed for RB Leipzig on transfer deadline day because he wasn't getting many opportunities in Manchester City's team.

The defender only rejoined City in the summer after the Blues triggered a buy-back clause in his PSV Eindhoven contract but he will see out the season in the Bundesliga and may well have played his last game for the Premier League champions.

It is understood Leipzig can make Angelino's move permanent in the summer for around €30million.

The 23-year-old made 12 appearances for City this season and didn't appear in the Premier League after his disappointing performance in the 2-1 derby defeat by United on December 7. Left-back continues to be a problem position with Benjamin Mendy missing the last few games through injury and Aleks Zinchenko sent off against Tottenham, but the club were happy to let Angelino leave on loan.

“I didn’t get many chances in the last club, so I had to look for new chances,” Angelino told German outlet  Kicker.   “It is great for me to have this opportunity. The club’s career in recent years has fascinated me.”

Angelino made his Leipzig debut in their 3-1 defeat by Frankfurt in the German Cup on Tuesday night.

"He did a good job," Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann said of Angelino after the match. "He created a lot of good scenes in the last third."
