Why an aircraft was flying over Carmarthen last night leading to many calls to the police

An aircraft was spotted flying over areas in Carmarthen on the evening of Thursday, August 27 leaving many people "concerned".

It caught the attention of those in the area because of the loud noise that was keeping them awake.

There were reports of multiple sightings of the aircraft in the skies around Whitland, St Clears and Carmarthen areas.

The noise even resulted in Dyfed-Powys Police receiving a high number of calls.

One man even said that he could hear it over Port Talbot.

Dyfed-Powys Police have explained the reason for the aircraft flying over the area.

It was actually involved in a training exercise.

In a statement released on Twitter just before 10pm on August 27, the force said: "We're receiving a high number of calls from people concerned about a fixed wing aircraft flying over the Whitland, St Clears & Carmarthen areas this evening.

"We are aware that the aircraft is involved in an @npasssouthwest training exercise, and assure there’s no cause for alarm."

Jon Cummings, Head of Uniform Policing, also added: "Good message here from @DyfedPowys testing and exercising the Fix Winged Aircraft.

"No cause for alarm."
