Why Amad is not in Manchester United U23s squad vs Arsenal

Amad has missed Manchester United's clash with Arsenal in the Premier League 2 due to illness.

The 18-year-old was expected to feature for Neil Wood's side at Leigh Sports Village on Friday night, but is not well enough to be included in the match day squad.

Amad is yet to make his debut in the United first-team but has played twice for the club already at youth level with the U23s.

The teenager netted a brace on his debut in a 6-3 win over Liverpool and added to his tally with one goal and three assists in a 6-4 win over Blackburn last week.

Speaking earlier in the week reserve manager Wood admitted the January arrival is getting more confident and more used to his new surroundings with each passing game.

“You see he has ability and he’s linking up well,” said Wood after Amad had scored and notched three assists in a 6-4 win for the U23s over Blackburn last week. “He doesn’t really have a relationship with any of these boys here. He came to Liverpool [last] Saturday and did well and the same [against Blackburn].

“He’s training with the first team and doing well and he’s still new to England and the style of football in England so it’s going to take time and like all young players you have to be patient with them. He’s gaining more confidence as the days go on.”
