Why Amad Diallo has only played 59 minutes for Atalanta before Manchester United transfer

Amad Diallo wanted to play more for Atalanta's first-team prior to his Manchester United transfer but claims it was not possible.

Diallo's move to United was announced during the summer window with the Reds finalising their deal to sign the 18-year-old earlier this month.

The winger impressed for Atalanta in the UEFA Youth League and made a handful of Serie A appearances towards the end of last season.

However, since his move to United was announced, Diallo played just 35 minutes for the Atalanta first-team - coming off the bench in the Champions League against Midtjylland and in the league against Hellas Verona.

Diallo claims he wanted to feature more for Atalanta but is looking forward to learn at Old Trafford.

"It’s been a little bit strange these last few months," he told the club's official media channels.

"I would have hoped to have played a little bit more with Atalanta, but it wasn’t possible.

"Now I’m here and I’m very happy to be here and I’m expecting a lot from my experience here. I’m looking forward to starting."

The new United star heaped praise on the Italian side for aiding his development prior to his big-money move.

He added: "I’ll always be grateful to Atalanta, they’re fantastic people starting from the coach to the president of the club.

"They have always supported me and have always been there for me, so huge thanks to them of course and it’s thanks to them that I am here now."
