Why Ally McCoist's co-commentary is so good as Rangers legend earns top praise from Clive Tyldesley

If you ask anyone in football who their favourite co-commentator is these days, then the majority are going to mention Ally McCoist.

The Rangers legend has always been well known in the media scene since he retired and after going back to that following his spell as manager at Ibrox, he's earned a whole host of fans.

The 2018 World Cup put him back in the spotlight with his brilliant discussions around Russian history and quick-witted lines to commentator Jon Champion.

And it's been similar again while working for Amazon Prime on the English Premier League this season and on Sky Sports for the Scottish Premiership.

His old pal Clive Tyldesley has worked with him regularly and has explained why McCoist has been so good in that role.

He's worked with him regularly and the RangersTV commentator has been a close friend. of McCoist for three decades.

And in an exclusive interview with Glasgow Live, he said: "I've got a book out in a few days now, and one of the things I added in a few months ago is that Coisty gets more likes than the rest of put together in broadcasting, and it's because he struck a chord with people.

"The chord he struck is that he's as well-equipped as any pundit to analyse he game. He's been an outstanding player, he's been a manager in difficult circumstances and he's been around the game as an international that has scored in international tournaments and so on.

"He has the credibility but he also has the fans perspective. He cares about the game like a fan. He's able to take a step back and not talk quite so intensely in reverential terms about how wonderful it is football is continuing through these times.

"He sees it as the punter sees it, so he calls it with credibility and with a common warm human touch and with some humour.

"It's the most important of the unimportant things but let's try not make it any more grand than it is and that's where Ally has got it absolutely right at the moment and loves listening to him.

"I've tried to learn from that and it'll be difficult when it's a Rangers and Celtic game because it is really important to people, but actually come on guys, there's bigger stuff going on.

"I can't ever be Coisty, I can's sing like him, I can't commentate like him, I can't do anything like him. He's a really big mate. I can try echo some of his tone."
