Why Alex Telles is not in the Manchester United squad vs QPR

Alex Telles could miss the start of the season for Manchester United due to an ankle injury.

Telles, 28, twisted his ankle in training at United's pre-season camp at Pennyhill Park and was absent from the matchday squad list against Queens Park Rangers.

Brandon Williams is starting for United at left-back again, with Luke Shaw on holiday following England's European Championship campaign.

"Unfortunately, Alex slipped and he twisted his ankle so he’ll be out for a few weeks," Solskjaer told MUTV. "We hope it’s not too bad."

Solskjaer confirmed Daniel James will play 45 minutes in his first pre-season appearance, having linked up with the squad in Surrey.

Telles' injury could impact plans for fellow full-back Williams to head out on loan next season. Williams, 20, has generated interest from Premier League and Championship clubs.

United are also interested in signing Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier - who can play at left-back - while Diogo Dalot, who can also play on both sides, is expected to report for pre-season training next week.
