Why action was taken against KFC in Wales for breaking Covid-19 rules

KFC in Ebbw Vale has been handed an improvement notice for failing to follow coronavirus regulations.

The fast-food company has been handed the improvement notice by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council for failing to take measures to ensure social distancing.

The council notice says KFC failed to ensure a two-metre distance is maintained between people on the site and failed to take other measures. This includes controlling the use of entrances and installing barriers or screens.

For the improvement notice to be removed, KFC would need to implement social distancing, and physical screens or barriers would need to be put in place.

Staff are also required to wear face coverings.

The fast-food outlet has until tomorrow (November 11) to make the necessary improvements, or risk further action. This could include a closure notice.

In a previous statement on improvement notices, the council’s executive member for environment, Cllr Joanna Wilkins, said: “We have been working proactively with local businesses around a safe re-opening to customers, and in adhering to the Covid-19 rules and regulations which can change dynamically.

“We do not wish to take enforcement action against businesses but these measures are in place for the safety of the whole community of Blaenau Gwent and surrounding areas, and where advice and support is not taken on board we will not hesitate to take the necessary steps to protect our residents.

“We take all complaints expressed by members of the public extremely seriously and would encourage anyone with concerns to contact us.”
