Why Aaron Wan-Bissaka's transfer to Man Utd has been delayed

Manchester United are set to confirm the signing of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka after agreeing a deal with Crystal Palace .

The right-back will join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side after the clubs agreed a £50 million fee, which includes a payment of £45m up front.

Wan-Bissaka, 21, has agreed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option of an extra year, and is expected to earn up to £80,000-a-week.

United had seen two bids for their target rejected by Palace before increasing their offer and the player flew up to Manchester on Wednesday before completing a medical with the club.

Although the deal had been expected to be completed sooner, BBC Sport reports that it was delayed by final negotiations between the two Premier League clubs.

It is understood that those late talks resulted in Palace securing a 10% sell-on clause if Wan-Bissaka leaves the Red Devils for a transfer fee higher than £50m.

The defender grew up a Red Devils supporter, with photos emerging during the transfer saga of him wearing the red kit as a youngster.

He is expected to become Solskjaer's first-choice right-back after Antonio Valencia left the club this summer.

Wan-Bissaka was a mainstay in Roy Hodgson's defence last season, having broken through the previous season.

He managed 35 Premier League appearances, during which he made three assists, and four cup appearances to establish himself as one of the top young full-backs in England.

His performances saw him earn a place the England squad for the European Under-21 Championship in Italy, which saw Aidy Boothroyd's squad suffer an early exit.

The full-back had a tournament to forget after he conceded an own goal in the opener against France, which resulted in him being dropped for the following two group games.

When the deal is formally announced by United, Wan-Bissaka will become Solskjaer's second signing of the summer after Daniel James joined from Swansea.
