Why Aaron Cresswell is not in West Ham's squad to face Everton

West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell has been ruled out of West Ham's trip to Everton due to what is being described as a "minor injury" by the club.

The defender picked up a knock against Crystal Palace so logic dictates it could be linked to that and comes despite manager Manuel Pellegrini saying that he had no fresh injury concerns ahead of this game apart from the long-term absentees.

Cresswell had scored two goals in his last three outings for the Hammers before picking up his injury which has seen him replaced in the side by Arthur Masuaku.

The DR Congo defender has not played in the Premier League since he was sent off in the second half of the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa last month, appearing only in the Carabao Cup embarrassment against Oxford United.

Cresswell replaced Masuaku in the team as he served a one-match ban for the win over Manchester United and the Liverpudlian kept his place in the team and also penned a new contract extension at the club just last week until 2023.

Also missing from the starting lineup at Goodison Park is Andriy Yarmolenko, who played twice in the international break for his country and the Hammers have decided to give him a breather, though he is on the bench. Pablo Fornals replaces the in-form Ukrainian in the starting eleven.

West Ham: Roberto; Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Masuaku; Rice, Noble, Lanzini, Fornals, Anderson; Haller.
