I mean, yeah, Josh Hart wants Stefon Diggs to come to Washington D.C., and Diggs has been acting weird on social media lately, but that doesn’t mean a trade between the Vikings and Redskins would actually work.
If Diggs wanted out, and the Redskins called up for him, the Vikings would probably expect to be blown away by a trade offer. For the Redskins, that means possibly giving up their first-round pick, which might not be the smartest idea for them.
The Redskins are in a good spot with the No. 2 overall pick. It might have been nice to be able to draft Joe Burrow, but other than that everyone else is on the table, including an edge rusher who has a chance to be really good at the next level.
Ohio State’s Chase Young had 16.5 sacks in his final collegiate season and 21 tackles for loss. Young was so explosive in college, it’s hard to see how he wouldn’t translate to the next level. Young likely being there at No. 2 means the Redskins should take him, as opposed to trading that pick for a wide receiver that doesn’t align with their timeline.
Dwayne Haskins seems like he might be a bit of a project, and obviously having a receiver like Diggs on the team would help him, but the Redskins have a lot of holes to fill. The team needs some time before it’s contending again, and getting Diggs, who isn’t super old at 26 but isn’t on a rookie contract anymore, is more of a win-now move.
With the Vikings likely to be reluctant to deal a talent like Diggs, and the Redskins not being a team that can compete for the playoffs right now, I just don’t see it happening.
