Why a police helicopter was hovering over South Bristol for over an hour this morning

A police helicopter was hovering over South Bristol this morning for more than an hour, beaming its spotlight down on residential streets in a daily fight against crime.

Residents in Ashton Gate and Bedminster were woken up by the noise of the helicopter as it hovered over Duckmoor Road, then further South to Knowle West from about 5am today (February 10).

Avon and Somerset Police was being assisted by the National Police Air Service South West in responding to a burglary, it can be revealed.

"One arrested on suspicion of burglary."

Residents responded with understanding to the police officer's post.

One resident joked about burglaries taking place during unsociable hours and if the officer could ask alleged offenders to move their operations to daylight hours.

PC Iles joked back: "Generally I’ve found Burglars work night shifts (shrug emoticon). Will make the suggestion though."
