Why a huge military plane has been spotted flying over Bristol

The Ministry of Defence has revealed why a huge military plane has been over Bristol recently.

A video, taken by a resident, shows the RAF A400 Atlas flying low over Bristol Airport on Saturday (May 16).

Earlier this month, other military vehicles such as Chinook helicopters were spotted by residents across the city, prompting online speculation as to why they had been called out.

Later on in the month, different types of aircraft flew over the south west of England region - including Hercules, Puma and Chinooks.

The Ministry of Defence has now confirmed the military plane seen in the video was carrying out pre-deployment training in the area.

A spokeswoman for the MoD told Bristol Live: "RAF A400 Atlas from RAF Brize Norton have been completing routine currency flying and pre-deployment training in the Bristol area."

Earlier this year, Avon and Somerset Police said the force takes part in training with the Royal Air Forces to help officers' professional development.

It went on to tell residents 'don't be alarmed' if they see military helicopters landing and taking off in the force area.
