Why a huge amount of scaffolding has gone up inside Swansea's Quadrant shopping centre

A massive amount of scaffolding has suddenly appeared inside Swansea 's shopping centre.

The tall scaffolding has been erected outside Debenhams and stretches across as far as the entrance to Superdry, Clarks and Ernest Jones.

Multiple blocks of scaffolding have been stacked from the floor right the way up to the roof of the shopping centre.

The metal poles surround the staircase that leads shoppers towards the cafe upstairs, as well as to access the multi-storey car park and shopping centre toilets.

Shoppers have been left wondering why it has suddenly appeared within the last few days.

A spokeswoman at the shopping centre explained that the scaffolding had gone up as part of maintenance works on the building.

It is not yet known how long the scaffolding is set to stay up or exactly what the maintenance works involve.

It comes as the huge scaffolding in nearby Princess Way is still yet to be removed.

It was put up in November, 2018, around the building containing shops including Zara and Slaters after it was discovered that hundreds of large concrete tiles which clad the building were in danger of falling onto shoppers.

It's not known when the necessary work to correct the problem will be completed.
