Residents in South Gloucestershire were surprised to see a low-flying helicopter swooping over their houses on Wednesday (August 3). A video shared on YouTube shows the electricity helicopter flying low over St Fagans Court in Willsbridge shortly after 3.30pm.
Lee Bateman, who took the video, was at his home when he heard a very loud noise overhead. He went outside, along with many of his neighbours, to see what the commotion was and took a video on his mobile phone.
Mr Bateman got in touch with BristolLive with the footage which shows an electricity helicopter circling the residential area. Electricity provider Western Power Distribution confirmed that they had deployed a helicopter for routine checks in the area.

A spokesperson for WPD said: "It was doing a survey of high voltage towers to check that there are no issues in terms of weathering. It's part of a regular pattern of assessments."
They explained how the helicopters have high-resolution cameras to take still images of the area, and so they need to fly low for the best possible photograph. These images are sent back for analysis to make sure there is no corrosion during checks that are part of a regular cycle of assessments carried out every ten years.
