Why a group were singing Blaydon Races on the Cloth Market today - it wasn't for the match

Newcastle is no stranger to a match-day rendition of the Blaydon Races.

But one performance on Saturday had little to do with Newcastle playing Southampton at St James' Park.

A group of students gathered on the Cloth Market for a mass singalong of the Geordie folk classic on Saturday.

Students from the University of Westminster are producing a documentary about Newcastle, partly inspired by the Blaydon Races.

One of the group - Ben Douglass - comes from Gateshead, and has said he hopes the film reignites Geordie pride.
