Why a blue plaque has been installed underground along the HS2 line

• A blue plaque has been installed 40 metres underground to mark where the HS2 line passes directly beneath the Brunel family tomb.
• Fitted to the wall of the Euston Tunnel, the marker honours Marc Isambard Brunel and his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
• The tunnel passes underneath Kensal Green Cemetery, where members of the family are buried.
• HS2 Ltd chief executive Mark Wild said the significance of the engineering achievements of Sir Marc and Isambard Kingdom Brunel “cannot be underplayed”.
• The high-speed rail line is being constructed between London Euston and the West Midlands, with specialist teams conducting “detailed assessments and specialist works” ahead of tunnelling under historical sites, according to HS2 Ltd.
