Why a Blue Jays catcher shaved his mustache in the middle of a game

The Blue Jays routed the Tigers 12-1 on the road Friday night, and catcher Danny Jansen capped the game with a two-run single – which may or may not have been sparked by a mid-game shave.

Jansen entered the game hitless in his last two appearances, and after starting Friday’s game 0-for-3 at the plate with one strikeout, Jansen shaved off his mustache. In his next at-bat, he smacked a two-run single to increase the Blue Jays’ lead to 11-0.

Jansen explained after the game that he shaved his mustache during a game last year and had immediate success at the plate, so he decided to do it again on Friday.

“I told myself I’d give it two, three at-bats see what happened. I got an RBI, but I shaved it and next thing I know I got a hit. I did the same thing last year in Triple A, for some reason I’m 2-for-2 with the mustache shave.”
