The San Francisco 49ers selected South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel with the 36th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Samuel is an electric athlete at the receiver position. He accelerates well off the snap, he has good lateral agility, and his deep speed is impressive. The five-foot-eleven, 214-pound wide out plays with a tough and competitive edge, and he is a good route runner who can sink his hips and make sudden cuts on a dime. He also has value on special teams, as he returned four kickoffs for touchdowns in college.
San Francisco has some solid offensive weapons with the likes of George Kittle, Dante Pettis, Jerick McKinnon and Tevin Coleman, but they didn’t have much talent at wide receiver. The addition of Samuel gives the 49ers some more speed for their offense, as well as another target for Jimmy Garoppolo to throw to.
