Get it while it’s hot! And not hotfixed!
Destiny 2 rolled out a big pre-Forsaken expansion patch today that introduced the game’s new weapon slot changes among other minor adjustments. But it appears that something has slipped through the cracks, and players have access to a limited amount of Forsaken gear early.
I’m still trying to decipher if there’s any other way to get this gear, but for now, the game’s Mars patrol flashpoint/patrol milestone is giving out Forsaken gear, brand new gear complete with the Forsaken icon in the corner, when you talk to Ana Bray after completion.
So far I’ve gotten chest armor for my hunter, but I have seen helmets, boots etc for all three classes. No weapons yet, and all the gear is from the “Scatterhorn” legendary set, regardless of class.
Could this be an easter egg that Bungie is keeping in the game to get players hyped for launch? I might buy that, especially given the limited selection of gear, but this seems like an error to me. For one, the armor has a “TEMP” icon in place of what the shader should be. This is also the only milestone that I can see is dropping this gear. I just completed my Clan XP milestone, for instance, and in my Powerful Engram there, I only got 380 capped regular gear. Nothing from Forsaken.
If this is just a couple pieces from one set that were accidentally released, and you can essentially only get one per character, even if this was an accident, perhaps Bungie will just leave it and not hotfix it. But in case that does happen, you may want to race to get your own now by completing public events on Mars.
Oh, and this gear also comes with lore related to Forsaken, which you could consider spoilerly, but you’re only reading pieces of a story, it seems. My chest piece has the second part of a story about Spider, the new Fallen character from Forsaken, and it appears to get the whole story you need the whole set. I’m sure MyNameisByf is piecing it together as we speak.
Again, I’m not sure whether this is an accident (the bugged shader and random engram it’s from make me think yes) or it’s not (the fact that it’s only a single set and not a bunch of gear). But it’s cool either way, and you should grab what you can while you can before it’s potentially gone.
Update: Uh oh, weapons are dropping too. I really don’t think this is on purpose…
Also, I just noticed that this gear has the new perks on it for both the weapon and armor. My armor has the ability to flinch less when wielding hand cannons or energy weapons, and to have more bow reserve ammo or more pulse rifle reserve ammo. Need to check to see if these are actually active.
