Whoops-a -Daisy! Firefighters use forklift to pull cow from watery ditch

A cow had to be pulled from a ditch using a forklift after it became stuck on Friday (August 21).

Fire crews from Nailsea and Bath were called to North Street in Nailsea at just after 10am after a member of the public had spotted the cow in the ditch and submerged in water.

On arrival crews discovered the cow – called Daisy – was firmly wedged in the ditch and surrounded by 3ft of water.

Crews – with the help of the farmer – used a forklift to help pull Daisy out of the ditch and to freedom.

Firefighters from Nailsea posted about the more unusual rescue on their Facebook page and said: “Daisy has had better days!

“Crews from Nailsea and Bath taking great care with the rescue to get this cow mooooo-ving once again.”

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 10:10am, crews from Nailsea and Bath fire stations were mobilised to reports of a cow stuck in a ditch off North Street in Nailsea.

“On arrival,firefighters found one cow stuck in a ditch in approximately three feet of water.

“Crews worked with the farmer to rescue the cow from the ditch using a forklift.”

It is understood that Daisy was uninjured by her ordeal.
