'Whole day arguing' - Richarlison speaks out over Olympic Games talks with Marcel Brands at Everton

Richarlison spent the "whole day arguing" with Everton over permission to play in the Olympic Games.

The Blues forward has been called up to his country's squad for the tournament in Japan later this month despite the club's resistance.

Richarlison, in an interview with ESPN Brasil in the aftermath of Brazil's 1-0 Copa America win over Chile, sounds certain he has convinced Everton to allow his release for the competition, which finishes on August 7 - one week before the new season begins with the visit of Southampton.

The 24-year-old's determination to play in the Olympics is a headache for new boss Rafa Benitez but Richarlison claims he has spoken to the Spaniard, as well as Marcel Brands, in recent days.

Everton appeared to have made their feelings clear but Richarlison is set on representing his country at the Games and reveals the conversations this week were difficult.

The Blues, it is understood, are in on-going talks with the Brazilian football authorities in the hope of finding a resolution to the matter.

Richarlison reportedly told ESPN, as cited by UOL: “I had a fight there, right? I spent the whole day arguing with Everton, with the director. I also called the new coach.

“It’s very important for me to get this experience, get more mature because it’s going to be important to me.”
