Sigourney Weaver has joined the cast of the forthcoming female-fronted remake of Ghostbusters, director Paul Feig has confirmed on Twitter.

Weaver played cellist Dana Barrett in both 1984’s Ghostbusters and its less-well-received 1989 sequel. It is not clear if she will return in the same role.

Weaver, 65, joins a growing band of original Ghostbusters castmembers who have agreed to return for Feig’s film, which stars Bridesmaids’ Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy alongside Saturday Night Live alumni Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon as the new quartet.

Bill Murray, who played Peter Venkman, will reportedly play Martin Heiss, a professional supernatural debunker who stands in opposition to the new team, while Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz) reportedly has a cameo role as a taxi driver. Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore), the final surviving original ghostbuster, was confirmed last week in an unspecified role. Harold Ramis, who played ghostbuster Egon Spengler in the 80s movies, died in February 2014.

Feig’s movie, due in cinemas next July, also stars Chris Hemsworth as the new team’s secretary.
