Following the local election results, people in Wales will now know who will be representing them on local issues for the next five years. In what has been a disastrous night in Wales for the Tories and decent night for Labour and Plaid Cymru, many council seats have now changed hands.

Which parties performed best in the local election?

Overall, Labour's night was positive. They consolidated in their heartlands and took control of Bridgend and Blaenau Gwent. However this was slightly offset by the loss of Neath Port Talbot. The Tories lost the only council they controlled in Monmouthshire, while Plaid gained Anglesey, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire.
