Who won the Ayr Gold Cup? Full result from thrilling final day of festival

Angel Alexander powered to Ayr Gold Cup glory as the 28-1 shot outlasted Growl by half a length.

On a stunning day in Ayrshire , the horse co-owned by former Liverpool and England star Michael Owen produced a stunning finish to claim victory.

10-3 favourite Buffer Zone could only finish a disappointing 17th.

Gulliver took third place, while Summerghand and Embour finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Angel Alexander's trainer Tom Dascombe missed the stunning win due to a delayed train but hailed the effort of jockey Richard Kingscote.

"I was disappointed I couldn't get there myself because the train was delayed," Dascombe said. "It didn't change the result and all I can say is Richard gave it an amazing ride.

"They split into two groups and we were in the smaller group and luckily they went hard our side and the pace was always on our side. If we had been drawn two I don't think we'd have won."
