Who won Gennady Golovkin vs Steve Rolls fight? Result from middleweight bout

Gennady Golovkin knocked down Steve Rolls with a brutal KO in the fourth round to make a huge statement in his DAZN debut.

'GGG' never looked in danger against the relatively unknown Rolls, and after landing a looping left hook to the top of the Canadian's head his opponent was never able to recover.

Golovkin ended the fight with a huge left hook which saw Rolls fall face first, and the Kazakh will no doubt now be gunning for a third fight with the Mexican Canelo Alvarez.

After the encounter he said: "I feel great, I feel like a new baby.

"Everybody knows. I'm ready for September. I'm ready for Canelo. Ask him. If you want a big drama show, please tell him."

It was a highly satisfactory return for a fighter who had not been in action since September 2018, when he lost his WBA, WBC and IBO middleweight belts to Canelo.

This was a first bout in a three-year, six-fight deal with DAZN worth an eye-watering $100m.

Another encounter with Canelo is now surely on the cards, with Golovkin yet to taste victory against the 28-year-old as that September defeat was in addition to a controversial draw in 2017.

Rolls had actually started this bout fairly promisingly, with the first round ending 10-9 to GGG, the second 10-9 to Rolls and the third 10-9 Golovkin, with not much to choose between the pair.

But that was all to change in the fourth, with Rolls going down like a ton of bricks after a devastating lights-out knockout.

All the talk will now focus on the next GGG vs Canelo bout, with Golovkin saying in September it was "99%" certain they would return to the ring if he were to beat Rolls.

Elsewhere Ali Akhmedov defeated Marcus McDaniel in the third round and Brian Ceballo beat Bakhtiyar Eyubov in a unanimous decision (80-72, 79-73, 78-74).
