Dennis Hogan tasted defeat to the classy Jermall Charlo in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The Kildare native came into the fight as the outsider and lost via knockout in the seventh round.
Charlo looked comfortable throughout the fight, knocking Hogan down early in the fourth.
The Irishman done well to stay in the bout after that, but Charlo came out all guns blazing in the seventh and knocked Hogan down again with a thunderous left.
The victory takes Charlo's undefeated record to an impressive 30-0.
The American paid tribute to Hogan after the fight.
He said: "Shoutout to Dennis Hogan for giving me real competition coming up to 160 to fight me."
Hogan's last defeat to Jaime Munguia was very controversial, but there was no such controversy here.
Ireland's Gary 'Spike' O'Sullivan faces Munguia in January.
