Who will win Celtic vs Rennes? Our writers make their Europa League predictions as one scoreline proves very popular

Resurgent Celtic are about to experience something new on matchday five of a European group campaign.

The Premiership champions are usually fighting tooth and nail to secure qualification but that's already been secured after Olivier Ntcham's magical winner over Lazio.

But that's not to say Neil Lennon's side are taking it easy. Nothing could be further from the truth with top spot in Europa League Group E still up for grabs.

A win for Celtic over Rennes and a defeat for Cluj against Lazio will see the Hoops crowned winners of a group for the first time in 13 attempts.

The Ligue 1 strugglers have domestic duty on their minds and are winless in the Europa League this season.

But will that change in Glasgow? Our writers have their say.

Neil Lennon has the luxury of being able to keep one eye on Sunday’s road trip to Ross County but even so, expect the changes to minimal. The current table shows that Celtic are the strongest team in this group and Lennon will want to keep it that way. Scotland’s champions looked the better side in France and should have enough to take all three points with a bit to spare.

Neil Lennon’s troops were unfortunate not to win the game in Brittany having been in control for spells. With qualification assured, they can relax against a changed Rennes side and deliver a fourth straight win in the group.

Celtic will go all out to ensure they top the group and land a seeded spot for the last 32 and won’t slip up against the French.

Celtic 3 Rennes 1

The importance of finishing top to ensure an easier knockout stage draw can’t be overstated which is why Neil Lennon has to go with his strongest side. They should have more than enough to win by a couple of goals against the already-eliminated French side.

Celtic 3 Rennes 1

MICHAEL GANNON

The malfunctioning French side landed in Scotland with nothing to play for in Europe and plenty of problems on the home front.

They will be dangerous but Celtic will be out to finish top of the group and are playing with confidence oozing out of every pore right now.

An early goal will make it a comfortable night and it will leave Rennes looking for an escape route.

Neil Lennon’s side are developing a touch of swagger on the Euro stage and could clinch top spot with a victory if Lazio see off Cluj. I expect the Hoops will be too strong at Parkhead for the Ligue 1 side who flattered to deceive in the group opener and who are conceding goals for fun.

Celtic 2 Rennes 0

With the pressure off, Celtic can enjoy a rare European occasion where they can go out and express themselves and that should lead to another success against a decent French side.
