Who will replace Mikel Arteta in the dugout against Manchester City?

Mikel Arteta will miss Arsenal's mach against Manchester City on New Year's Day after returning a positive COVID-19 test.

football.london understands Arteta is suffering from mild symptoms and is planning on attending tomorrow's press conference remotely as things stand.

The Spaniard previously contracted the virus in March 2020 ahead of the suspended break from the season.

But who will replace Arteta on the touchline at Emirates Stadium on Saturday?

football.london takes a look at the coaching staff who are set to take the reins this weekend.

Albert Stuivenberg

The Dutchman has played an important role alongside Arteta since joining the coaching staff and is regularly seen next to the Arsenal boss while wearing AirPods.

As previously reported by football.london, Stuivenberg tends to specialise in the technical side of things at Arsenal.

He is a big user of video analysis and can be seen giving instructions to substitutes using an iPad in most matches as they prepare to come on.

Stuivenberg took charge of Wednesday's training session and is expected to receive instructions from Arteta during the game on Saturday.

Steve Round

Round wasn't pictured in any of the training photos on Wednesday but would usually be in the dugout on a matchday.

He worked with Arteta the player when the Spaniard was at Everton and has vast experience in English football.

The 51-year-old previously had spells at Manchester United and England, before spending two years as Director of Football at Aston Villa.

Miguel Molina

Molina had a similar pathway to his compatriot Cuesta and is considered an expert at integrating the physical and mental aspects of the game into training sessions.

He is also focused on video analysis and can usually be spotted sitting in the stands on a matchday, while using his analysis the game via his laptop and communicating information to the bench.

Carlos Cuesta

Cuesta speaks six languages and has worked for at both Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

He could be heard shouting words of encouragement - and frustration - when there were no fans inside the stadiums last season.

The 26-year-old works one-on-one with the players and is heavily focused on using video analysis.

Nicolas Jover

Jover joined Arsenal in the summer after replacing Andreas Georgson as the club's set-piece specialist.

He spent two seasons at Manchester City and has previously worked at Brentford, Croatia and Montpellier.

Over the past few months, Jover has taken a prominent role on the touchline where he instructs Arsenal players on their positioning during throw ins, free-kicks and corners.
