Who will play in the Community Shield at the start of next season?

Manchester City's clean sweep of domestic honours was completed with their FA Cup rout of Watford .

But their stunning season started when they beat Chelsea to win the Community Shield in the first game of the season back in August.

A Sergio Aguero double set them on their way to a historic quadruple - and they will attempt to continue their dominance when the 2019/20 season gets underway.

But their double has meant the traditional curtain raiser cannot take place between the Premier League champions and FA Cup winners.

Instead, City will take on Liverpool in the Wembley showcase as a result of the Reds finishing second in the Premier League after their dramatic title race.

Fans spot something strange about Man City's FA Cup final kit

The battle between the two sides went right down to the wire with City breaking Liverpool hearts by edging the top spot by just a single point.

The rivalry between the two clubs has escalated in recent months as a result of their on-field success, with City players criticised after a clip surfaced of them singing an anti-Liverpool version of the Allez Allez Allez chant.

By the time the Community Shield comes around, there is a chance Liverpool could by European champions if they see off Tottenham in the Champions League final in Madrid on June 1.

The game will represent the start of what is expected to be another battle between Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp in their bid for Premier League glory.

City will be aiming to win a third straight title, with Liverpool still desperate to win the Premier League for the first time.

Full details over the game - including the exact date - have yet to be confirmed by the FA, although it is likely to be on Sunday August 4.
