Who will Packers face at QB on Sunday? Rams listing Matthew Stafford as questionable

The Green Bay Packers won’t know the starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams until 90 minutes before kickoff on Sunday.

Although starter Matthew Stafford didn’t practice all week, Rams coach Sean McVay said Stafford will be listed as questionable on the final injury report and given up to gametime on Sunday to prove he can play against the Packers. The same goes for right tackle Rob Havenstein.

“Both Rob and Matthew will be listed as questionable for the game,” McVay said Friday. “That’s been the plan all along.”

Inactives will be due around 10:30 a.m. CT on Sunday morning.

Stafford is dealing with a right thumb injury. He didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday and won’t practice Friday.

Brett Rypien is the backup quarterback behind Stafford.

“We knew he wasn’t going to participate all week. We’ll take it all the way up to game time,” McVay said. “I think he’s progressing well, he’s doing good. Making good progress every day.”

McVay said the Rams have prepared both quarterbacks to play and he’s not willing to close the door on Stafford playing Sunday.

The Rams are 3-5 under Stafford this season. Since joining the Rams, Stafford is 0-1 against the Packers. He didn’t play in the Packers’ 24-12 win over the Rams last season. Stafford has played in 21 career games against the Packers.

McVay said linebacker Ernest Jones won’t play due to a knee injury.
