Who will Katie Taylor fight next? The options for the Bray boxer after her thrilling victory over Natasha Jonas

Katie Taylor's next mission could be to become Ireland's first ever three-weight world champion.

The Bray boxer is the undisputed lightweight queen after another successful defence of her titles against Natasha Jonas in Manchester on Saturday.

Taylor just edged the thrilling fight on the scorecards and said after that she was open to a rematch with Jonas in the future.

She said: "Natasha's last two performances have shown [she is up to championship level]. I'd love to a rematch between her and Terri Harper and maybe in the future a rematch between the two of us as well."

But the the 34-year-old's plans for the summer look set to revolve around a clash with American Jessica McCaskill at welterweight.

Taylor defeated McCaskill in December 2017, but to her credit McCaskill has not looked back since and has twice defeated the previously unbeaten Cecilia Braekhus to win and defend all of the welterweight titles.

Bray woman Taylor's promoter Eddie Hearn said in March: "Katie Taylor would love to step up and fight for the welterweight undisputed championship.

“I mean she struggles to get to 140 but Jessica was at 140. So we could do the fight at 141, 142, like those kind of numbers."

A win over McCaskill would be a historic one for Taylor. Only last month Carl Frampton failed in his bid to become Ireland's first three-weight world champion, losing to Jamel Herring in Dubai. But Taylor could do what no Irish boxer has done before her.

Other options for the former Olympic champion include a bout with Amanda Serrano. The Puerto Rican was scheduled to clash with the Bray boxer last year, but the bout fell through over a money disagreement.

Serrano most recently defended her WBC and WBO featherweight belts against Argentinian Daniela Romina Bermudez.

The 32-year-old is still keen on a showdown with Taylor: “That fight is definitely on my radar. I definitely still want to have that fight with Katie Taylor."

Taylor herself told Sky Sports this morning: "There are still huge fights against the likes of Jessica McCaskill and Amanda Serrano.

"There is no such thing as an easy fight at this stage of your career.

"I want the big names, I want the big fights. There are big names out there.

"I definitely want to challenge myself against the very, very best. That's what I'm in the sport for.

"I don't see the point in ducking anyone or picking and choosing opponents.

"I want the very best because they bring out the best in me.

"That's what greatness looks like."
