Every preseason, there is a player who steals the hearts and minds of the Pittsburgh Steelers fan base. Unfortunately for the player, he rarely turns out to be as good as his billing, but at least for those four games, he’s a hero. Last season, edge rusher Ola Adeniyi was the guy.
This got us thinking about this year’s crop of rookies and which one will be the darling of the 2019 preseason.
Our money is on edge rusher Sutton Smith. He’s going to be in deep rotation for the Steelers in the preseason and his speed and quickness should make quick work of third- and fourth-string offensive tackles.
Another excellent candidate who could actually be great in the regular season is running back Benny Snell Jr., who is accustomed to being great. It is highly unlikely the Steelers use James Conner much in the preseason, so Snell could be dominant.
