Who will be next into Gordon Brown's big tent?

Gordon Brown may have promised "a new type of politics" but yesterday he invoked memories the dark old days - at least from many Labour supporters' point of view - as he took tea at No 10 with Lady Thatcher.

Inviting a couple of Tory MPs and a donor to the Conservatives into his "government of all the talents" is one thing, but the Iron Lady herself may prove too much for some of the party faithful to stomach.

John McDonnell, the Labour leftwinger, was probably speaking for many of his colleagues when he said: "If this is an indication of Gordon Brown's political heroes or his estimation of a person's character, I almost despair."

The question now is: who's next?

Mr Brown called Scotland manager Alex McLeish soon after the team's stunning victory in France on Wednesday night, and perhaps football was not the only topic of discussion.

The prime minister could probably use someone with experience of tackling the French as he faces increasing pressure over the EU reform treaty.

And now that Lady Thatcher has been to visit No 10 other rightwingers may also fancy their chances - one imagines Norman Tebbit is waiting excitedly by the telephone.

But perhaps Gordon Brown will surprise us all by going for someone really leftfield to join his government of all the talents - what are the odds on Jeremy Corbyn?

Who do you think Gordon Brown will/should invite to join him next?
