Who was the first woman was to appear on a banknote? Take the British money quiz

The new £20 note came into circulation last week.

Made out of polymer, the new note is longer-lasting and harder to counterfeit, according to Bank of England.

The new note features the self-portrait of JMW Turner (1775-1851), an 18th and 19th Century English painter, printmaker and watercolorist, regarded as a predecessor to Impressionism.

To mark the introduction of the new note, Ocean Finance has devised a quiz to test just how much the nation knows about the banknotes so often stashed in our wallets and purses.

For example, do you know who the first woman was to appear on a banknote? Which note is the worst for harbouring bacteria? Or who is planned to feature on the new £50 note in 2021?

At the end of each question, you’ll be able to see how many people chose each answer. Take the quiz below and challenge others to beat your score.
