Who was selected with the draft picks the Browns traded away?

The Browns weren’t highly active with trading away draft picks this year, but they did make some high profile moves to get much-needed players. What happened to those picks though? Let’s take a look.

Pick 17 – NY Giants – Dexter Lawrence – Clemson

The trade that landed Olivier Vernon and Odell Beckham Jr. for the Browns, gave the Giants Jabrill Peppers, Kevin Zeitler, and two picks. They used the first on Dexter Lawrence which attempts to immediately fill the hole left by Vernon on the line.

Pick 49 – Indianapolis Colts – Ben Banogu – TCU

The Browns traded this pick to the Indianapolis Colts to move up and select Greedy Williams, a prospect who many believe was the best cornerback in the draft. The Colts ended up taking Ben Banogu who may be primarily a 3rd down LB.

Pick 95 – NY Giants – Oshane Ximenes – ODU

The second pick that the Giants procured from the Vernon/Beckham Jr. trade was turned into edge player, Oshane Ximines. This is another pick that tries to fill the void left by Vernon as many people view him as not just a DL, but an edge that can drop back to LB when needed.

Pick 144 – Indianapolis Colts – Marvell Tell III – USC

The second part of the Greedy Williams trade netted the Colts this USC safety. Considered a player that is on the fringe, he would need to develop consistency if he wants to make it in the NFL for the long term.

Looking at what the Browns came out with compared to their trade partners, it’s easy to say Cleveland won with proven commodities and getting talent without giving up much in return. General Manager John Dorsey, on paper, has done it again folks.
