Who Wants to be a Millionaire viewers stunned as teacher gets basic science question wrong

Who Wants to be a Millionaire viewers were left in disbelief after a science teacher was stumped by a 'basic science question'.

Pat Lucas, a retired science teacher, was one of the contestants who sat opposite host Jeremy Clarkson in the latest episode of the new series of the show.

Confident Pat breezed past the first five questions, reaching the first safety net of £1,000, however, it was a science question which stumped the former Lincoln teacher.

Jeremy Clarkson looks curiously on at the screen as Pat takes her 50/50 on the question (Who Wants to be a Millionaire | ITV)

For £2,000, Jeremy Clarkson asked: "A skull and crossbones on a yellow background is a warning symbol that specifically indicates a material is what?"

The answers were a choice between, Toxic, Corrosive, Hazardous to the environment or flammable.

Jeremy was surprised when the former science teacher opted to use her 50/50, leaving her with A. Toxic, or C. Hazardous to the environment.

Former science teacher pat guessed the wrong answer on a science question on Who Wants to be a Millionaire (Who Wants to be a Millionaire | ITV)

Surprisingly, Pat confidently chose C. Hazardous to the environment, as her final answer.

Clarkson winced as he said: "Well you are a science teacher... so you should have got that right, but I'm afraid you didn't."

Pat exclaimed: "Oh no.", before putting her hand to her face, going home with £1,000.

Viewers on Twitter quickly turned to the site to voice their disbelief:

One viewer wrote: "Unbelievable that a retired science teacher has just got the most basic science question wrong on who wants to be a millionaire even after taking the 50/50 option! #hazardsymbols"

Another Tweeted: "Can’t believe I’m sat here watching who wants to be a millionaire and a science teacher for that toxic sign question wrong

A third added: "You couldn’t make it up Science teacher gets a science question wrong on who wants to be a millionaire!!!"

"A science teacher on who wants to be a millionaire just got asked what a skull and crossbones represents in chemistry and she did a 50:50 and still said HAZARDOUS TO THE ENVIRONMENT!!!!

"It’s TOXIC and it’s actually a health and safety issue that you don’t know that!", added another.
