Who Wants To Be A Millionaire's 'pointless' choice for phone a friend

A contestant on ITV's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire had a 'pointless' choice for their phone a friend life line.

Host Jeremy Clarkson welcomed more famous faces, all trying to win big money for their chosen charities.

In the last of a run of celebrity specials there were two more famous faces in the hot seat - Alexander Armstrong and Gabby Logan.

First up in the hot seat was quiz show Pointless presenter, Alexander - the quizmaster became the quizzed.

Viewers expected him to go far, but he used his phone a friend lifeline early on, at the £1,000 mark.

He chose to phone his co-host of Pointless, Richard Osman.

The phone a friend option has 30 seconds to help the contestant get the correct answer. However, Richard was unsure and ran out of time to help.

Twitter users shared their comments on what they were watching.

One user said: "Xander phones Richard and it's pointless. #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire."

Samantha said: "Well that was pointless ringing Richard Osman!! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire."

Sally said: "Armstrong's phone a friend is a question setter on Pointless. That's... an extremely good move.. oh, he's not sure and he's out of time. Well that was poi- #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire"

Alexander used his second life line and powered through the question with the help of Jeremy Clarkson.

He ended up going on to win £32,000 for his chosen charity, The Cathedral Music Trust.
