Who Wants to Be A Millionaire contestant swears after losing £15k leaving Jeremy Clarkson in shock

Who Wants to Be A Millionaire host Jeremy Clarkson was left in a state of shock as, for the first time in the show's history, a contestant swore after losing £15,000.

The famous ITV quiz show has returned for a new run of socially distanced, COVID secure, episodes with no studio audience and one of the players who found themselves in the hot seat during Sunday night's episode was Justin Beattie.

Justin was doing rather well, making light work of easy questions for low money, before his winnings started to mount up.

He told Jeremy that he was aiming to get to at least £32,000, setting that as his second safety net, with plans to open his own micropub with the cash he took home.

However, he didn't reach his desired benchmark despite seeming reasonably confident on a sports question.

Justin was asked: 'Which sportsman retired aged just 26, before making an unsuccessful return to competition eight years later?’

The options given to him were: Bjorn Borg, Alain Prost, George Foreman and Carl Lewis and, after giving it some thought and not using any of the lifelines available to him, Justin rather confidently said Carl Lewis.

Justin was gutted by his Millionaire loss (ITV)

Then came the awkward moment when presenter Jeremy had to reveal to him that his prize money had dropped from £16,000 to £1,000, telling him: "I’m heartbroken as well. ‘I mean, not as much as you are, obviously."

Putting his hands over his mouth, a stunned Justin replied: "Oh s**t," to which a taken aback Jeremy replied: "That's' the first time we've had that!"

Viewers at home were quick to react too. One tweeted: "Oh poor Justin. He was doing so well and was so sure it was Carl Lewis. I thought he was on for a crack at the million. Who wants to be a millionaire ?" and another reacted: "Gutted for Justin!"

However, another took pleasure in Justin's misfortune, posting: "I take great pleasure in seeing people fail on quiz shows and that Justin fella on Millionaire deserved to fail" to which another viewer replied: "Completely agree from the ~30 seconds I saw of him"
