Who trained and who didn't - Injured star makes welcome return as Arsenal prepare for Valencia

Nacho Monreal made a return to training after a tight calf as Unai Emery put his side through their paces ahead of the crucial Europa League semi-final first leg against Valencia on Thursday evening at the Emirates.

With the Gunners hopes of a top four spot all but over after suffering three league defeats in a week the continents second tier trophy represents the best bet as a route back into the Champions League.

A full complement of Arsenal players trained on the manicured turf of the club's training ground HQ on Wednesday morning including Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazettte and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles also trained.

And there was also a welcome return for someone who has been sidelined for some time - Rob Holding.

What Sanllehi, Emery and Arsenal must do in the 100 days until the transfer window closes

The former Bolton centre-half who was enjoying a stellar season before a season-ending injury ruled him out, was pictured for the first time

The highly-rated 23-year-old ruptured the cruciate ligament in his left knee during the 2-2 draw with Manchester United in December and will not play again this season.

However, Holding was out on the pitch doing light work in a bid to ensure he will be fit for pre-season training.

Danny Welbeck was another who was pictured being put through his paces alongside Holding. He too will not play again this season, with his Arsenal career expected to be over.
