Monkey can’t remember a time when so many high-powered media executives were, how shall we put it, on the market. What is the reason for this glut of exits? Within the last four months we have witnessed the standing-down of BBC director of television Danny Cohen, Endemol Shine Group president Tim Hincks and ITV director of television Peter Fincham. Then BBC2 controller Kim Shillinglaw was made redundant and this week ITV director of entertainment and comedy Elaine Bedell announced her departure, while former BBC director general and ex-Channel 5 chairman Greg Dyke said he was changing his mind about staying on at the FA and will leave in June. All have stepped down with no mention of what they are going to do next. Is it anything to do with the consortiums that are being put together to take over Channel 4, Monkey wonders? Or will there be a Ghostbusters-style coming-together of major media spirits to launch some gigantic independent production company? Interesting times.
