Antoine Griezmann has enjoyed a spectacular year. He was instrumental for Atlético Madrid as they made it to the Champions League final and was player of the tournament and top scorer for France as they progressed to the Euro 2016 final. But he lost both finals to teams containing Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo’s first memorable contribution in the Champions League final was scoring a penalty in the shootout and his only action during the Euro 2016 final came against a moth, but Griezmann is not feeling confident. “For the Ballon d’Or, it is all over,” he said after the European Championship final. “Ronaldo won the two big competitions this season.” He has won the biggest prizes available for his club and country this year, but does he deserve to win the biggest individual award too?
