“Who says no?” - Arsenal fans make the same point after major Liverpool development

Arsenal fans have been appealing to the club for the appointment of Michael Edwards following the news that he is set to leave Liverpool.

The Athletic reported on Monday morning that the Reds’ sporting director is set to step down from his role at Anfield at the end of the current season with his contract set to expire.

He has certainly impressed as one of the main decision makers on Merseyside during a period in which Liverpool have earned plenty of success.

Edwards arrived at Liverpool in November 2011 as head of performance and analysis but managed to work himself up to his current role and he now holds a position on the club’s “transfer committee”.

As a result, he has been credited with acclaim for his involvement in the arrivals of the likes of Mo Salah, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson and many more at Anfield - a squad that has seen Liverpool end their long wait for a league title, as well as earn another European crown.

His positive work has not ended there though, with Edwards having been pivotal in Liverpool’s outgoings having scooped considerable fees for the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Luis Suarez and more.

As a result, Arsenal fans have been hopeful that he would be able to repeat the same work at the Emirates Stadium and have been crying out for his appointment.

Here are the best of supporter responses from social media:

As it stands, Edu currently holds the role of technical director in north London.

He has been majorly involved in Arsenal’s £130m outlay this summer, spending that has seen the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard and Ben White arrive at the club for large fees.

The Gunners continue to struggle on the outgoings front though, having failed to find buyers for Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sead Kolasinac, amongst others.
